　　分析长难句的方法就是先把长难句拆分成简单句。搞清楚简单句的意思，然后看这些简单句都是由那些连接词连接起来的。根据这些连接词来判断各个分句之间的关系。比如：

　　It is true that during their explorations they often faced difficulties and dangers of the most perilous nature, equipped in a manner which would make a modern climber shudder at the thought, but they did not go out of their way to court such excitement.

　　首先找出这句话有几个限定动词。因为限定动词就是谓语。找到谓语后就知道主语了。这句话一共有四个限定动词，分别是is, faced, would make和did not go。他们的主语分别是谁呢?is的主语是it，但it只是一个形式主语。真正的主语是that引导的主语从句。主语从句的谓语是faced，主语是they。宾语是difficulties and dangers of the most perilous nature。后面这个equipped in a manner which would make a modern climber shudder at the thought,是个过去分词短语做原因状语。里面还包含了一个定语从句。定语从句的主语是which，谓语是would make，modern climber是宾语，shudder at the thought是宾语补足语。but作为并列连词，不做成分。并列两个句子。较后的句子主语是they，谓语是did not go，out of their way 是状语。go out of their way 的意思 “故意”。to court，such excitement是状语。

　　把这句话拆成简单句就是：

　　It is true

　　that during their explorations they often faced difficulties and dangers of the most perilous nature, equipped in a manner

　　which would make a modern climber shudder at the thought,

　　but they did not go out of their way to court such excitement.

　　这样看就不难了。因为只有两个从句，一个是主语从句，一个是定语从句。较难的是那个过去分词短语，因为它没有引导词，你看不出来它和主句的关系。这就需要长期的分析句子结构的训练才能掌握。它是原因状语，说明为什么他们会面临较困难的危险，可以把它扩写成because they were equipped in a manner which would make a modern climber shudder at the thought. 因为他们用一种让现代人一想都不寒而栗的方式武装起来。

　　全句的意思是：的确，在他们的探险过程中，他们会面临较危险的那种危险和困难，他们的装备让现在人一想都不寒而栗，但是他们并不是故意去寻求这样的刺激。
